berlitz

These two titles—Derek Aust’s Italian grammar handbook and Phil Turk’s Spanish grammar handbook—are part of a cluster of books we produced for Berlitz Publishing Company in a matter of three months. Our work consisted of coming up with a “physical” manuscript to edit from, which we did either by the use of tear sheets or by scanning the original edition of each book; then of editing and rewriting that manuscript for glaring errors of content and language, Briticisms, and so forth; of line editing, copyediting, and type marking; and finally of the electronic production of the manuscript into book form up to finished disk, with everything set for the printer to print from. By way of design, we were given the disk of the original edition of one of the books plus a template of the elements for the revamping of that original design. Everything else was for us to reconstruct.
